Expectation and reality

01

The actual problem

3

Institutions in this table publish no business savings rate at all. You cannot compare what nobody will quote you.

The CAD table

Every CAD rate we track.

Read the notes. A headline rate with a paper application behind it, or a cap that stops well below your balance, is a different product than the number suggests.

The USD picture

03

USD is where the gap is widest.

A big bank’s USD business chequing pays 0.000% on every tier to $5,000,000 USD. Insured liquid USD tops out at 0.90% published. Insured USD terms pay 3.45% to 4.00%. That spread is why a USD plan leans on terms.

Notes

  1. 1

Tangerine, US$ Business Savings Account. Sign up as a personal client first; the first business account must be a CAD Business Savings Account, and later accounts open by phone. Moving dollars in and out needs a USD business chequing account at another institution.

  2. 2

Tangerine, US$ Business Guaranteed Investment (GIC), 1-year. Funded from the US$ Business Savings Account, so the whole Tangerine onboarding chain applies.

  3. 3

ICICI Bank Canada, Business USD term deposit, 1-year (non-redeemable). Non-redeemable before maturity. The redeemable-deposit tables on the same page are dated 2020 and look unmaintained.

A table tells you the spread. A report tells you what it costs you.
